A Green Township mother is trying to preserve her daughter's legacy after she was brutally raped and murdered.
Marigrace Schnurr wants to get a new law passed that would put child molesters and killers behind bars longer.
Schnurr and her friends have already collected 600 signatures.
Their goal is to get as many as they can to take to Columbus by the first week of September as legislatures meet to discuss this issue.
They're hoping it will be called "Kaylee's Law".
The 18-month-girl was raped and murdered last month in North College Hill.
Schnurr's then boyfriend, Matthew Carovillano, has been charged with Kaylee's death.
The young mother tells 9News she would like to get a law passed that would guarantee child killers and molesters serve the maximum penalty handed down by the judge. That way they would not be allowed any kind of early release.
"I want something good to come out of this because whatever happens isn't going to bring my daughter back, but just to know she died and I can help younger children -- that makes a difference to me," said Schnurr.
Carovillano plead not guilty to rape and murder charges before a Hamilton County judge on Tuesday.
He's currently being held on a $1.6 million bond.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Carovillano remains under a suicide watch at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
As for the petitions, on Wednesday, Kaylee's mom and friends will be at Miami Whitewater park at the children's water playground area at 1 p.m.
